Memory of Mom: Five More Minutes With the Real “Her”

Written by Debi Einmo on May 7, 2012

Debi Einmo, a self-described “small business wonk and government contracting guru,” is the author of “Don’t Bid: Insider Secrets for Small Businesses to Benefit from Government Spending.”

We thank her for sharing her Mom Memory with the Five More Minutes With audience.

Five more minutes with mom….what I would give for that.

No my Mom has not died, but she has suffered a serious stroke and she isn’t with us mentally anymore.

I wish I could get her to laugh about all the crazy things we used to do as kids…..there were five of us and I can only imagine (with a 30-year-old of my own) how we used to make her crazy.

I wish I could see some sort of recognition of life…of something that says she understands. To have five more minutes of “her”.

Death of the body is a difficult thing to grieve, but a living death is harder in many ways. I wish I had my mom back.

Memory of Mom: How Will I Live Without You?

Written by Mary Sullivan on May 6, 2012

Mary Sullivan and her 10-year-old daughter write books together. They have two titles already published–“If I Had a Daddy” and “If We Were Best Friends”and two more are being written.

Of her mother, Mary said, “I miss her every day and talk to her everyday!”

My mom has passed, but if I had five more minutes with her…after telling her I loved her my whole life, I would ask her how am I going to live without you?

Who will be there for me, like you were?

And I would ask her, if she could please watch over me until we meet again!

Memory of Mom: Thoughts and Even a Video!

Written by Joy Ware Miller on May 5, 2012

This Memory of Mom comes from Joy Ware Miller, who also submitted our first-ever Memory of Mom video! Thanks for both your submissions, Joy!

I grew up with such a rich heritage. I was in my early twenties and all my grandparents and parents were still with us!

The life and God lessons they taught and lived are what truly continue to inspire me today!

In turn…I now can attempt to live the legacy with my children…because we never know, when we will only have Five More Minutes! Thanks for allowing us to share!

P.S. I created a “Proverbs 31 in Modern Day” video on YouTube! I would be delighted if you choose to share it….and I believe others blessed!

Blessings,

Joy

Memory of Mom: Full of Gratitude During the Final Moments

Written by Deborah Parker on May 4, 2012

This Memory of Mom was written by Deborah Parker, a motivational speaker and author at The DPJ Training Group.

Deborah says, “I wrote the primary parts of my published motivational memoir, “Navigating Life’s Roadways: Stories of Insight from My Odyssey and Inspiration for Your Journey,” during the year of grieving the loss of my mother in March 2010. I gather strength from our joint sojourns and the guiding spirit of this bond of life. The devastating emotions so many go through from this type of loss are warmly and vividly portrayed in my stories. My mother is my spiritual co-author and, out on long walks, the power of nature provided the creative outlet for me with the metaphors and stories.”

Deepest thanks to you, Deborah, for your inspiring book and this MoM submission!

As I stood in a hospital room watching my mother’s health continue to be leveled from the onslaught of leukemia, she began to look at me with a dreamy and intense gleam to her eyes.

I didn’t know the end was so close that day or maybe I did and was too scared to acknowledge it.

But what I saw in her eyes was the most adoring view as she looked at me, her first born.

So if I had five more minutes, I would’ve poured thousands more thank-you’s on her for all she did for me, as a determined factory-worker mother, particularly a single parent of four children.

For ensuring that I got my education and went through the rituals of childhood to adulthood from school field trips to the proms, I am so grateful. She made it all happen in spite of our poor financial situation.

And my apologies to her for my bad judgement calls during our most challenging moments would stream lovingly and steadily from my lips.

I would hug her tightly and share with her the value of her motherly gifts, that I know even more now continue to bless me.

And I’d be planning our joint trip to Hawaii.

Memory of Mom: Miss Pennsylvania

Written by Michael Brein on May 3, 2012

This sweet Memory of Mom comes from Michael Brein, an author and publisher who’s also known as The Travel Psychologist.

Thanks, Michael!

I thought to myself, “Mom,” (who passed on many years ago), “I’m going to Galveston, Texas, to visit friends there. I’ll go the the public library there and look for you. I mean, I’ll look for the photo you were in when you were Miss Pennsylvania, as a participant in the ‘International Bathing Girl Review.'”

And, this I did.

I found her picture and showed it to my friends, saying, “This is my Mom. She was Miss Pennsylvania and was in this pageant in 1928, standing on the seawall in a long line of girls wearing their banners with their countries and states on them!”
